Ethereum 2.0 “potentially many years” away – a death sentence for the course?

Ethereum is making progress, but the Release seems to go to infinity. According to a recent official Blog Post, it will take “potentially a lot of years” until it comes to a complete Ethereum-2.0 Rollout.
The current Istanbul-Hard-Fork is causing many in the Ethereum Community for enthusiasm. What is left is often overlooked: the complexity of the work that the Ethereum developers – and that you will need much more time.
According to an Overview of the most pressing problems of the Ethereum developers ETH 2.0 (“Serenity is far”) is still far. The 1.x-Files: A Nearly-Sync on the official Ethereum Blog explains that the Team now is on incremental Upgrades for Ethereum 1.x concentrated. The work will be divided into smaller Updates, in order to ensure that the original Chain is maintained during this transitional period, functional.
Now is the time to extend the “life of the Chain by at least another 3-5 years, before a drama occurs more to Upgrade to Serenity (ETH 2.0)”, – stated in the Posting.

Why the delay?

The reasons for the delay are varied and complex. In the blog post, Griffin Ichiba Hotchkiss writes about some of the core problems that the developers hinder currently, due to the enormous problems.
These topics include:
Chain storage block size and transaction throughput state size and network performance
The Team is still working actively to find solutions for these problems.
Overall, the Migration of the existing ETH 1 is.x to Serenity is complicated by the fact that the original Chain has to stay alive. If Ethereum from the ground would have to with Serenity started, it would have been a simpler process.
The need of additional developments for ETH 1.x will delay a full Roll-out of ETH 2.0 years.
In other words: We can assume that a complete ETH 2.0 will only come in “many years” after “at least another 3-5 years,” – out, so the Ethereum blog post.
The current, official scheduling.

Ethereum 2.0 ‘Phase 0’ planned, tentatively for Q1 2020

The Ethereum-Devs press largely before the specific time information, but many media still write about the first quarter of 2020, it is the provisional date for the “Phase Zero” of Ethereum 2.0.
Danny Ryan, a researcher for the Ethereum Foundation, told reporters in mid-November, that this arbitrary date was mentioned in a public conversation with the Team – and the media would have it picked up. It is unclear whether the latest Ethereum blog post the team’s plans to publish the Phase Zero of Ethereum 2.0 in the first quarter of 2020, contrary to.
It should be noted that Phase Zero does not amount to a full Start, not nearly – it is only the first step in a long process. This Phase allows for the Strong and for the first Time, “ETH2”.
However, the Asset cannot be removed in this step or transfer. All participants who decide to put in Phase Zero, get your ETH1 in exchange for ETH2 burned. Then it is frozen until the next step effectively.
Sharding is done together with the transactions in the next Phase. On the basis of the recent technical problems, which were described in the Ethereum Blog, however, is to assume that Sharding is coming sometime in 2021.
The Transition to ETH 2.0 will necessarily bring two Ethereum-Chains and two different crypto-currencies that exist for some time side by side. ETH 1.0 and 2.0 have different prices, and both on the stock exchanges to be traded until the full version is introduced by ETH 2.0.
This time will probably prove to be a decisive Moment for the world’s leading Smart Contract Platform, because you must prove that your Upgrade for the market and the industry is on the whole feasible.
