A virtual machine that is compatible to the environment EVM

In order to reproduce the same ease of development of program and contract smart as on the ecosystem of the Ethereum virtual machine, Optimism has deployed an alpha version of the LMO, which is supposed to offer the same tools.
As stated in the blog of Optimism, it is a virtual machine that supports all the intelligent contracts on the Blockchains Rollup Optimistic. In this perspective, the same contracts to the solution in layer 2 will appear on the main layer.

Facilitate the learning of the development of intelligent contracts

The creation of the LMO for the developments of contracts in L2 (layer 2) responds to a need for extension of the programming technology used on the L1. As indicated Optimism, this solution is among the efforts of the start-up to lighten the learning experience.

“Many solutions for 2-layer, including those that we ourselves have developed in the past, have had problems with the experience of the developers because of custom tools and non-standard who exhibited learning curves massive “, to quote the press release before you continue :
“The OVM is without doubt the most difficult part of the construction of a scalable solution for contract intelligent generalized fully compatible with EVM. However, there are still a lot of work to do.”

For the time being, the LMO alpha is a platform for developers to test the deployment of the contracts between the layers.
