Promon, the Norwegian company dedicated to the security of mobile applications, have recently brought it to light the existence of a vulnerability in Android dangerous referred to as Strand Hogg.
Strand Hogg is a portal for access to private data saved on Android phones, that cybercriminals use it to hack the mobile operating system of the users, and this, regardless of its version.
According to the censuses, 500 the most popular applications have been infected.
Tom Lysemose Hansen, technical director of Promon, has commented in this regard :
“We have evidence that attackers are exploiting Strand Hogg to steal confidential information. The potential impact of this situation may be unprecedented in terms of scale and damage caused, because most applications are vulnerable by default, and all versions of Android are affected “.

Strand Hogg is a silent killer
The victims of Strand Hogg does not detect any symptoms significant during the infection, because at first glance, the application works normally on the user interface. But once they include confidential information, the attackers are the first to receive it.
The criminals can now take control of the applications that are security sensitive users.
Apart from the theft of personal information, Strand Hogg seeps also by listening through a microphone, reading and sending text messages, as well as access to all the pictures and private files of the device.
Although the researchers at Promon have disclosed the results of his studies at Google last summer, the search engine is not able to correct this vulnerability for all versions of Android, although it has managed to remove the applications involved.
