The launch of the next fork of Ethereum (ETH), Istanbul, was delayed again. The new estimated date for that to occur, the expected fork is at the beginning of October. According to Hudson Jameson, the director of the Foundation Ethereum, the test network for the branch is scheduled for early October, adding that: “For listeners who do not know how this works, we choose a block number that we estimate will be around the 2nd of October. (…) However, that could be one or two days backwards or forward from that date, based on the speed with which they occur in the blocks between now and then.” However, this is not the first time that delayed the launch of the fork. Already before Istanbul had been postponed as Parity, an infrastructure company of chains of blocks that manages the core of the network Ethereum, had been delayed until 6 September. The core developer of Parity, Wei Tang, explained that the organization needed at least two more weeks before the developers were able to proceed to select a block number for the fork. It also stated that: “we Need time until September 6 to complete the implementation. Not only because we accept the EIPs with delay, but because right now we are a big company of refactoring of code base and probably want to merge them first before mixing them with the PID of Istanbul”. But that occurred so many delays and there is the possibility that in the near future to present other, make many members of the community cryptographic begin to take positions sceptical of the fork. In theory, Istanbul should provide updates of code, called Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), and the long awaited addition of ProgPoW. For its part, the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin said that the chain of blocks of ETH is almost complete, which seems to deter possible contributors of the new adoption of Ethereum. In addition to that, Buterin added: “The scalability is a big bottle neck because the chain of blocks of Ethereum is almost full. If you are a larger organization, the calculation is that if we join, will not only be more complete, but we will be competing with the whole world for the space of transaction. It is already expensive and will be even five times more expensive thanks to us. There is pressure to avoid people”. It is expected that Istanbul will be launched as soon as possible, not only to provide greater benefits to Ethereum, but to calm those who are skeptical. The following two tabs change content below.
